The "Pasanggrahan" meaning guesthouse in Indonesian, is the home of the original govenor of St. Maarten...said to be the oldest home on the island.

Located on front street in Philipsburg, it is a refreshing return to a former era of charm & graciousness. With its peacock chairs inthe front lobby, the portrait of Queen Wilhelmina on the wall and its small but charming guest rooms, The Pasanggrahan is quite quaint and popular amongst the business travelers.

We visited guest room #9, set on the second floor overlooking the bay. The room was clean and neat with white tiled floors, a queen size bed with island print linens and large, heavy wooden doors opening onto the balcony.

At the time of our visit, the Pasanggrahan quoted having 11 rooms with an additional 15 slated for availability in late '96. All rooms provide either queen, king or full size beds and face the bay or front street. We suggest, in keeping with the charm and elegance of this guesthouse, a bay view room where you can tune out much of front streets' rumblings.

Rooms have ceiling fans and air-conditioning is available for $10 additional per night. A beachside bistro and bar are on site with watersports a few steps away on the beach.
